Who is your battle really with?

Ok, I’m chiming in. I want people to think about the situation from the beginning, not what it has turned into. Before the whole Kaepernick situation, to take a knee was something players did when another player was seriously injured. When Kaepernick took a knee during the anthem, he did it as a silent protest against racial inequality and the killing of black men by police. At the time, the idea of kneeling during the anthem as a signal that the country was “injured” was talked about and the reasoning behind the protest was not under dispute. It only became disrespectful towards the military when people opposed to this protest, namely Trump and his supporters, called it this. And don’t deny that Trump will turn anything into something it is not if it serves him. I ask you. Are you really protesting against racial equality? Are you really protesting against addressing bias that exists in some police officers? Instead of getting caught up in a destructive battle with someone you are not actually at odds with, do something positive to support the people you are defending. We need to fight racial inequality. The members of the military need our support and respect. Meeting on of these needs will not come at the cost of meeting the other. Do not let those who would divide us succeed.
